A Medisafe alternative you pay for once, if at all.

Medisafe now needs a subscription in some countries outside the US. Lavio is free for up to 3 medications, and Pro is a one-time purchase.

A monthly subscription takes 12 payments a year and a yearly one takes 1, and both carry on the next year. With Lavio Pro, it’s 1 payment, once.

Is Medisafe still free?

Not everywhere. Its terms, updated 1 December 2025, say that from 1 January 2026, keeping access in certain countries outside the US needs a paid subscription, after any free trial.

The terms don’t name the countries. UK users reported the change in December 2025. In the US, it may still be free.

Reminded early, on time, then again.

Get a heads-up 5, 15 or 30 minutes before, and a follow-up if a dose isn’t logged. Or snooze right from the reminder.

What’s free, and what’s Pro.

Free, for up to 3 medications

  • Reminders, with an optional heads-up and follow-up
  • “Keep the gap between doses”, so a late dose moves the rest of the day
  • A check when you log a scheduled dose too soon
  • Widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen
  • Your full dose history

Pro, paid once

  • Unlimited medications
  • A Live Activity countdown on the Lock Screen
  • An export of your dose log, to share
  • App icon colors

Where Medisafe does more.

If you need any of these, Medisafe is the better choice. Lavio doesn’t have them.

It also has a very large user base, with over 100,000 ratings on the US App Store. Lavio is iPhone only, with no sync, backup or import.

No account. Nothing collected.

Your medications and history stay on your iPhone, with no ads or analytics.

Switch in three steps.

  1. Step 1: Save your Medisafe history

Save a copy of its PDF report while you still can. Its terms say you can ask for an export before your access is suspended, and for your data after.

  2. Step 2: Add your medications

There’s no import, so add each one again, with its dose and times. Up to 3 are free.

  3. Step 3: Turn on reminders

Allow notifications, then choose a heads-up, a follow-up and a snooze length that suit you.

Questions

Can I bring my data over from Medisafe?

No. Lavio can’t import from any app, so you add your medications again. Save your Medisafe history first.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. It’s a one-time purchase that adds unlimited medications, the Live Activity, the export and app icon colors. You can try it free for 14 days first, and the trial simply ends: it never turns into a payment. Everything else is free, for up to 3 medications.

Is there an Apple Watch, iPad or Android version?

No. Lavio is made for iPhone, with Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. There’s no Apple Watch app, iPad version or Android version.

How do I cancel a Medisafe subscription?

If you subscribed on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Medisafe’s terms say a free trial becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends. Read its terms

Where is my information kept?

Your medications and history are kept only on your iPhone, and left out of iCloud and computer backups. There’s no account, and nothing is sent to us. Privacy Policy
